Storm, Warriors drawn in ANZAC Day Clash
// April 26th, 2009 // No Comments » // Storm, Track and Field
As the Storm and Warriors men began their pre-game warm-ups on field, the heavens opened and the rain bucketed down. Luckily for us, we were under-cover!
Before the game, there was a service to remember those lost in the wars and the traditional bugle song was played.
The Warriors opened up the scoring with a conversion from a penalty near their end zone.
It was not long into the game before fans got to get up and moving - the Storm scoring the first try! Cameron Smith converted through the posts, and received a rousing cheer as no one expected him to get any in a night with blistering winds and shitty conditions. Continue Reading
Demons Silence Tigers Roar

Today’s football game between the Melbourne Demons and the Richmond Tigers was a must-win for both. Both teams have been notorious under performers and currently this season, both have lost every game.
Not only was a win important for both teams, Richmond coach Terry Wallace has been under the pump with papers claiming if his Tigers didnt win against the Demons, his coaching career at Richmond was over.
The Red and Blue got over the line 14. 16. 100, to 13. 14. 92. Continue Reading
Storm Shocked at Graveyard loss to Titans
// April 6th, 2009 // No Comments » // Storm
The Melbourne Storm rarely lose at home Olympic Park aka ‘The Graveyard”. Yet, when the Storm took on the Titans on Saturday night, they lost, going against expectations of the media and public.
What I saw during the 80 minutes of play, was a Storm team in a bit of a shambles with players taking on new positions. I’d say there was a fair bit of confusion and captain Cam Smith needs to be the #9. Greg Inglis is more versatile and can play wherever he is needed.
The Titans, who were without half-back Scott Prince looked far more held together than the Storm and never looked like they would not be the victors. The Titans’ defense was largely the reason Storm failed to score more than one try during the match. Continue Reading
Melbourne Formula One Grand Prix
// April 1st, 2009 // No Comments » // Formula One
The Formula One Grand Prix day was awesome. When I got there, the V8 Supercars 15 lap Challenge had just started. Dad came and found us at the entrance gate, handing us corporate passes sneakily, and we were so excited we jogged over to the track to see some of the action.
The V8s were loud, and made a gun sound when they drove past, which I think is gear-change. Although, I have NO idea!
As we made our way over to the Fangio stand, we walked right along the track, the noise was vibrating through my body and it was exhilarating!
After the driver photo, and the fire engine lap, it was time for the race to get started. The drivers were waving to the crowd, and all of the Ferrari fans near us were yelling “LOSER” to Lewis Hamilton! How rude!
As the race started, the first bend, as usual, held the end of the race for some drivers. And in true form, Aussie Mark Webber was in the thick of it. Webber should have backed off to not be hit, but was too headstrong and landed himself into the pits, luckily escaping his race-end. Continue Reading

Sudden death to Dragons at Graveyard
// March 15th, 2009 // No Comments » // Storm
Melbourne Storm won their first game of the 2009 NRL season by just one point in extra-time, after drawing 16-16 in regular time. Greg Inglis kicked the extra point as the Storm were 20 yards out from the try line.
The Dragon’s scored first, with a ‘free’ handed to them on a platter. Storm’s first try came from Greg Inglis’ typical one hand stop of an opponent as he pushed Jamie Seward like a rag doll to get over the line.
It was Wendell Sailor’s first game back in rugby league since his controversial ban from rugby union, but the Storm were able to control the big man until a few bad tackles got Sailor the try of the night, running from about Storm’s 30 yard line, across the pitch, and beating everybody down field to score his first try in his first game. Melbourne Track Classic
// March 6th, 2009 // No Comments » // Track and Field
Last night’s Melbourne Track Classic was a strong start to the Track and Field season. The weather was chilly, with spurts of rain during the evening. Obviously not exactly conducive to seeing record breaking performances and personal bests.
Steve Hooker jumped strong, at 5.80m. He missed 3 times at 6.0m, but still a good effort.
The lovely Asafa Powell also ran at the meet, finishing the 100m in 10.23 secs. During his after-race interview he said (in that likeable Jamaican accent) that the headwind played a factor in his “slow” time. I for one was not disappointed in seeing the race over in a “slow” 10.23 seconds. Continue Reading
Melbourne – Victorious!
// March 1st, 2009 // 1 Comment » // Victory
Yesterday’s A League Grand Final saw Melbourne Victory come away with the win, and proved they are the best team this year. The final score of the game was 1-0, not what I had envisioned, but still the score doesn’t matter as long as Melbourne won.
In the ninth minute, Cristiano of Adelaide United caught Rody Vargas of Melbourne high, getting a red-card for the act. However, Melbourne weren’t able to seal a goal against the 10 men until Nicky Ward was substituted for Evan Berger. With the switch up, Pondeljak had the opportunity to shoot from far range, and got one past Galekovic. Continue Reading
Looking Forward to Saturday

Melbourne Victory take on Adelaide United from the ‘Piss-ant’ town this Saturday for the 6th time this season, however Saturday will be different – Grand Final!
I have my ticket with our whole group and am already excited. Last time these two clubs met in a grand final, the Victory won 6 nil. I’m hoping to go better with a 7 nil victory FOR the Victory! Five of the six goals were scored by Archie Thomson, and one for Danny Allsopp, who is this season’s top goal scorer in the A-League.
So far this season Victory have beat Adelaide each and every time they’ve met, so this week will be no different, with the Victory looking on target to hold Adelaide goalless for the premiership! Continue Reading

Hi everybody, you’ve reached the website slash blog of me - Lesley Weston!
I stumbled upon the fact that my name has yet to be taken as a domain name (awesome), so I pounced, and this website is the result.
I’m a paid-up member of three sporting teams here in Melbourne; The Demons, Storm, and Victory.All of which generally have the words “The Mighty” placed in front of them.
I attend each team’s home games, as well as pretty much any other sporting event happening in Melbourne (and some above the border) so I want to incorporate my love of these three teams and any other sporting event happening in Melbourne into my blog.
Come back each week to see what I’ve been up to!
