A bitter night at ‘the Graveyard’, Storm needed to prove they can be quick out of the blocks and tough to beat.
At half time the score was 4-0, not a big start on paper…however the Storm boys were doing the grind of wearing the Sharks out. The final score was a big change, 30-10!!
5 tries for the Storm in the second half turned the game from a close game to an easy win.

This Saturday is July 4th. It doesn’t mean much to us Aussies, but it is Independence day in the USA (where I used to live), so therefore I’m celebrating it!
It’s going to be a MASSIVE day. At 2pm the Melbourne Demons kick off against the West Coast Eagles at the MCG. The Melbourne Storm are playing at Olympic Park at 7pm. I’m doing the double.
In between the two big games, I’m getting out of Melbourne’s Sporting precinct for an hour to go Celebrate Independence Day at TGI Friday’s in South Yarra! Burgers, Fries, Soda…typical American stuff. Can’t wait!
As for the Demons, I think they will snatch their 2nd win of the season from the Eagles. They have said they will come fighting since the news broke today that the great El Presidente of the club will be backing off from his busy schedule to focus on battling and beating his cancer.Jim Stynes will be in everyone’s hearts and minds during the game - and I think the boys will knuckle down and kick some ass.

Tough Titans defense
The Melbourne Storm rarely lose at home Olympic Park aka ‘The Graveyard”. Yet, when the Storm took on the Titans on Saturday night, they lost, going against expectations of the media and public.
What I saw during the 80 minutes of play, was a Storm team in a bit of a shambles with players taking on new positions. I’d say there was a fair bit of confusion and captain Cam Smith needs to be the #9. Greg Inglis is more versatile and can play wherever he is needed.
The Titans, who were without half-back Scott Prince looked far more held together than the Storm and never looked like they would not be the victors. The Titans’ defense was largely the reason Storm failed to score more than one try during the match. (more…)

Melbourne Storm won their first game of the 2009 NRL season by just one point in extra-time, after drawing 16-16 in regular time. Greg Inglis kicked the extra point as the Storm were 20 yards out from the try line.
The Dragon’s scored first, with a ‘free’ handed to them on a platter. Storm’s first try came from Greg Inglis’ typical one hand stop of an opponent as he pushed Jamie Seward like a rag doll to get over the line.
It was Wendell Sailor’s first game back in rugby league since his controversial ban from rugby union, but the Storm were able to control the big man until a few bad tackles got Sailor the try of the night, running from about Storm’s 30 yard line, across the pitch, and beating everybody down field to score his first try in his first game.
