Melbourne Victory with trophy

Melbourne Victory - Preseason's best, Season's best, and Grand Final winners!

Yesterday’s A League Grand Final saw Melbourne Victory come away with the win, and proved they are the best team this year. The final score of the game was 1-0, not what I had envisioned, but still the score doesn’t matter as long as Melbourne won.

In the ninth minute, Cristiano of Adelaide United caught Rody Vargas of Melbourne high, getting a red-card for the act. However, Melbourne weren’t able to seal a goal against the 10 men until Nicky Ward was substituted for Evan Berger. With the switch up, Pondeljak had the opportunity to shoot from far range, and got one past Galekovic.

With 25 minutes left, Danny Allsopp stupidly headbutted Cornthwaite of Adelaide. Getting himself an instant red-card, Melbourne were left with 10 men with the object of holding off Vidmar’s men to keep their 1-0 scoreline.

Evan Berger took a hard knock late in the 2nd half, landing on his head and stumbling around for a while, but he finished out the game.

Unfortunately the game wasn’t the greatest game I’ve seen, nor was it one of the best games I’ve seen between Adelaide and Melbourne, but the Victory won, and they won what was an exhausting and exciting match for the 53,000 fans at Etihad Stadium.
